![]() You can check the 7-day weather forecast and monitor hourly weather to avoid getting stuck in bad weather. Come back every day!” Wouldn’t that bring plenty of smiles to your face? Most probably, yes.Īside from the crazy quotes, the app has a super handy animated radar to keep you in the loop about weather changes. For instance, if the thunderstorm is likely to rock your region, you will get a quote something like, “Rain, rain, don’t go away. With this app at the disposal, your weather tracking will no longer be a dull experience thanks to the tongue-in-cheek comments. Grumpy Cat’s Funny WeatherĮver wished to have grumpy weather forecasts to keep the boredom out of sight? If the straightforward answer is yes, “Grumpy Cat’s Funny Weather” is for you. Didn’t get it? Well, you can use the time machine feature to view the weather for any location for up to 70 years. And if you ever want to turn the clock back, there is a time machine for you. Whether it’s the spooky fog, hilarious dialogue or the crazy characters, the app ensures tracking weather forecasts never become a mundane task.īeyond fun elements, Carrot Weather delivers accurate data and allows you to keep a track of current, hourly or daily weather forecasts. What makes it stand out of the rest is the eye-catching interface that presents weather forecasts in a funny way. And rightly so as the app is widely considered as one of the best weather apps on iPad, iPhone, and Android. Whenever the term “funny weather” strikes the mind, the one name that comes to the fore is “Carrot Weather”. ![]() What else have they got in store? To unravel everything they feature, let’s explore the roundup! Aside from refreshing the mind, these crazy weather apps also offer a lot of customization so that you get a more personalized experience. For a while now I have been bouncing back and forth between using Dark Sky and Hello Weather as my tools of choice. When life is already burdened by ever-mounting workloads, why let the volatile weather dampen your spirit? A few comical quotes can light up the entire mood in the flash of a few moments. Then a few months ago, after seeing some new features (at the time) of CARROT Weather, I decided to give the quirky app a try. The thing about CARROT is that the entire aesthetic and tone of the app makes it seem like it’s not a serious app. However, I’ve found that it is perhaps the best weather app. The make it or break it for any weather app is the information density of the app - a good weather app can convey what’s going in a very detailed manner, very quickly. ![]() Whether you are looking at the cute art, the top information, the hourly detail view, or the week overview - CARROT nails information density. To be clear, there’s nothing CARROT has which other apps don’t have, but the presentation of that same data is vastly better than any other app. Why? Because that’s how we think about the day, not vertically. ![]() Weeks too, because that’s how we think about a week. We are moving through time, not down time - horizontal logically conveys this better.Īnd that’s the thing - the design itself is logical, but the weird nonsensical cartoons are what seals the deal. They make sense, but only if you just take the mood from them. Honestly I don’t know what the fuck is going on in most of these little cartoons - but they do convey the basics of the weather to me. You take one glance at those for just a moment, and you have a pretty good idea of what is going on - in a way which you can’t quite describe, but that you know. Oh, it’s nice, or it’s cold, or it’s nasty. ![]() It’s instant and that’s hugely important. So while, like I did, it is easy to dismiss the app as a gimmick - it really fucking works. The other thing CARROT nails is that different people care about different things - and that’s both personal and geographic. ![]()

He cited its file memory upon reopening, its ability to notice if an open file was changed on disk by another program, syntax coloring, including that users can create their own color schemes, split windows feature, show line number feature, convertible tabs to soft-tabs and view sidebars. Rob Griffiths wrote in April 2002 for MAC OS X HINTS saying he was "very impressed" and naming it "pick of the week". In general, jEdit has received positive reviews from developers. This way, the event will automatically update any open Vim session. So, how do we solve it? We could make sure to receive events from within Vim and then automatically make the changes. The issue with this is, it's affecting the performance in the long term, and you can feel it when you're using Vim. That way, the function can check whether it's time to switch the mode. You can pass a callback, which will be called every nth second. One way to solve this is to set a background job via start_timer.You have two close and re-open all sessions. If you have multiple Vim sessions open in various windows, they won't change. The function that checks whether to enable or disable a particular mode is only sourced when starting a new Vim session. Automatic switch between the light and dark mode usually doesn't exist. But for me, I had several more criteria:Īll the solutions I've seen so far didn't meet these criteria. There are plenty of blog posts that explain how to switch between light and dark mode in Vim. Now that we have a color scheme, we can easily change it inside our vimrc. I set both to hard, which is more pleasant to read. Luckily, it has a dark_contrast and light_contrast options to increase the contrast. One main issue I had with gruvbox was the pastel colors, which decreases the contrast quite a bit. This color theme is community maintainedand is decent-looking. Eventually, I decided on gruvbox (for now at least). I checked many themes over the weekend with multiple dark mode options (solarized, gruvbox, papercolor, ayu, etc.). I had to find a new color theme that is well maintained and has excellent light and dark colors. Some issues with the Molokai theme are 1. I even forked it and modified it for my liking. I'm a huge fan of the Molokai color theme. TL DR here is a demo of the final work: Color theme I will share code snippets throughout the blog post, but my setup is open source and can be found in my GitHub dotfiles repo. Let me go over this list one by one and explain how things have evolved. Run a daemon process that would listen to macOS "Appearance changed" events and call the change_background script.Create a script called change_background that would change all applications modes from light-to-dark or dark-to-light.I.e., I should be able to change Vim's color mode from outside Vim. Find a way to change the modes programmatically.Implement the light and dark modes for each application separately.Pick up a popular color scheme with both dark and light modes and pleasant to the eyes.I had a rough plan on how I wanted to tackle this issue: Just like Vim or Alacritty, you can define the status bar colors in the config file, which is nf Tmux doesn't use many colors usually unless you add a status bar or change the pane borders.Alacritty doesn't have an API, though, but there are ways to emit an event. In Alacritty, you can define multiple color schemes and switch between them easily in the config file alacritty.yaml.In Vim, if your color scheme supports both a light and dark mode, you switch between by using the command: set background=dark or set background=light. There are already light color schemes for Vim, Alacritty, and most of the popular applications. So, I asked myself, "what if I use a light theme during the day and switch back to a darker theme later in the evening?". Last week, when I had to increase my screen's brightness, I've figured out that I was using a pitch-black terminal screen and all my applications (Vim, Alacritty, etc.) had dark backgrounds. Since then, I never asked myself, "why does the terminal have a dark background?". I've started using a terminal when I was 17 years old. If you're like me, using shell applications, such as Tmux, Vim, etc., it won't work for you. Apple later released an "Auto" mode, which would switch to dark and light based on your location's time. Initially, I was manually changing my light and dark modes in macOS. Because I'm working remotely for a company with a large timezone difference, most of the time, this also means I'm working during the evenings. It makes reading text comfortable for me. ![]() So, I asked myself, 'what if I use a light theme during the day and switch back to a darker theme later in the evening?' Binary-comparison also processes all files in parallel.īefore version 10, FreeFileSync had shown a single advertisement during installation to help fund the project. Folder comparison will issue multiple requests at a time even when traversing only a single folder, by dynamically managing the workload while recursively reading the folder tree. The new parallel file operations architecture is not limited to the synchronization step, but used throughout the application. The idle time after issuing each file I/O request while waiting for the network response is not the limiting factor anymore: The number of parallel operations can be set as high as needed until the bandwidth is saturated and the network card is operating at full speed. This new design offers huge performance improvements for all scenarios that are dominated by latency, like synchronization against network shares or cloud devices including SFTP and FTP(S). After black and white came 8-bit colour, leading to the distinctive 8-bit pixel art that we know today. Their colour values were also restricted to a small subset of the colours used on computers today. Pixel images were originally the only type of image which could be displayed on computers due to resolution constraints. The painting style known as " pointillism" is also very similar to pixel art. However, the concept of pixel art may go back thousands of years with traditional art forms such as cross-stitching (or more generally, counted-thread embroidery) which uses small units which can be filled with thread to create a pattern or “drawing” of sorts.
